This is Prague 3's twelfth year celebrating vinobraní in fair fashion. Our reporters abroad (over in Prague 3 that is) tell me that the crowds yesterday were thick, the music loud and the cotton candy copious. We had our share of the throng yesterday too in namesti Miru, and the whole family went home happy with cups of burčak* for Will and me, and cider for Caroline.
*burčak = newly pressed wine, so called because of its stormy appearance. In Austria, Switzerland and Germany it is known as sturm.

I may have to vote in favor of the P3 festival after getting home from battling those P2 crowds..although P2 wins prettiest setting hands-down, what were they thinking putting all of the booths RIGHT in the midst of that logjam of a performance stage??
So true, I got claustophobia every time we had to walk that gauntlet!
"Sturm" because it's turbid I suppose. I love the idea of wine festivals but am a party-pooper when it comes to celebrations that involve drinking very young wine. Early participation in the Nouveau Beaujolais runs here in the UK (a fraudulent attempt to get ignorant Brits to drink more - now transformed into a government campaign to reverse the process) left me with a deep antipathy towards the gamay grape which lasts until this day. I know little about Czech wine but am an abiding enthusiast for "pivo" (as the pre-disintegrated Jugos called it) which I regard as the best beer in the world.
These wines are younger even than Nouveau Beaujolais (horrible stuff it is), they are the very first pressings and taste more like bubbly grape juice than wine. They are so young, they don't even get bottled except in plastic 1.5 liter containers designed for fast consumption.
We're not really in the right region for reds but the white wine (once bottled) can be very tasty. I'm certainly a fan. And the beer, well that goes without saying!
I'm having flashbacks to the time wine was pressed in my kitchen - it IS stormy. A festival sounds like more fun - I like that there was a band(?) called Eggnoise!
I missed them this year but Eggnoise is apparently pretty popular in the music festival scene here. Great name don't you think?
