May Days

Holidays fall fast and thick in May in Europe. Last Friday, May Day, we celebrated our first May holiday and James' first birthday, all at once!

How did we spend our May Day? From left, counterclockwise:
[1.] Playing on the recently refurbished Riegrovy Sady playground, now one of the nicest playgrounds I've had the chance to push a swing in.
[2.] Baking and decorating fairy cakes, and then gobbling them up.
[3.] Taking James to his first beer garden to meet up with friends.
[4.] Prepping for the cocktail party we threw Saturday to celebrate surviving a year with two children. I made a ton of food, including deviled eggs. Yum. These two plates represent approximately 5% of the tastiness outlaid.
[5.] Gratuitous cow pic I added for the fun of it. The word in Czech for cow is krava, and we suspect that a Czech family by the name of Kravin had a good sense of humor, way back when.

Devilled (sorry about the extra l) eggs. I've always wondered how many I could eat. Mercifully, I've never had the opportunity to find out. It would be a hideous death.

I see you subscribe to the American belief that the worst crime on the social calendar would be to under-feed your guests. Memories of groaning boards dance through my memory banks.

Somehow Cool Hand Luke comes to mind...

We've gone the other way before, and had too few nibbles, so this time I was determined to be prepared!

Happy 1st Birthday to big boy, James! I can't believe how quickly he's growing up.

Sounds like you've been enjoying every bit of May. That food looks and sounds amazing.

A lovely collection of images. Makes me hungry. At a wedding once I ate 10 deviled-egg halves, for a total of 5 whole eggs. Could have eaten more!

Oh, you know I love a gratuitous cow pic! Food looks perfect, and Caroline looks as though she's having a blast. Much love to James on his big first birthday -- a parcel is on its way.

Thanks for the birthday wishes everyone! He really seemed to enjoy himself, and know somehow that it was a day for him.

Angela, do you remember that deviled egg photo from Endeavors, years ago? I think of it everytime I make them now. What a beautiful shot.

Happy b-day, James! (Now why didn't I think of celebrating each year of two-child survival with a big party for ME? Brilliant!!)

(My word verif is "glitr" - most appropriate when talking about parties!)
