Cross Country Cross Checking

There's no snow in Prague right now, but the weather reports are full of the news of snow in the Czech mountains. I'm spending my work breaks piecing together snow reports, train schedules and Google maps in search of the closest open cross country track and day dreaming about our Christmas vacation in Switzerland.

We didn't have a lot of days free for skiing, but any free time we had found us out in the mountains with the children. They practiced their down hill skiing, built snow men and Caroline stepped away from the ski lift to go cross country with me once. The weather was too warm for ice skating on the lakes, but we're hoping that when we head back to Switzerland in February for ski break the Christmas thaw will have ended and the deep freeze set in for the season.

In the meantime, does anyone in Prague have a favorite cross country track they'd like to recommend? And are you skiing where you are?

But where in Switzerland? Let me know so I can at least dream.

I have a query about the role played by triads relative to the key signature of the original melody or riff in jazz improvisation. But I'm shy and aware I'm in over my head - it can wait til the Spring. In the meantime, ski for me too.

LdP - we were in Einsideln, a normal little town in the middle of the mountains that surprises visitors with a huge cloister set amongst fields and fields of cross country tracks. It's a 30 minute drive from my sister's house and is perfect for kids and cross country, but not a true down hill ski spot. During our break we're heading to the Engadine and will be right at the base of the Corvatsch. I'll take lots of pictures from its feet, I promise.

Tell me the query, no reason to wait until Spring!

Sounds like us--we have to trek up north to find any snow this year and wouldn't you know, it's the year we gave snowshoes to our kids for Christmas!

This is the year we'll ALL go to the top (of the Corvatsch) - deal? And for anyone looking up Einsiedeln - there's one additional e that gives it that eeee sound...

GG - snow shoes are fun, do the boys like looking for Big Foot in the far north tromping around with their snow shoes on?

Ee - If I can take a gondola down, I will be at the top of the Corvatsch our first clear day!
