Springing into Two

James turned two a few weeks ago, and is on a determined bounce into growing up. He's happily moved into a big boy bed, he tries to make his own breakfast, he loves to put his train set together, he sings along with us (and Caroline's music player) and he really thinks that if he just repeats after C, he'll have conquered all the words that matter.

Caroline says he's fun these days, especially when they play The Game. When asked what The Game consists of, she explained the rules very patiently. To quote :
#1. Run around the house fast,
#2. When I see James, or he sees me, stop and scream.
#3. Run again.

Ha! Fun. I always enjoyed it when they were 2 more than when they were 1 or 3. Small enough to still be sweet, but old enough to start to do things. Happy Birthday to James! x

It's astonishing how emotional I am ( a smile and a twinkle of a tear, honestly) upon reading this post and seeing these latest photos. I suppose it's because of my own Miss and Master Cb who were once those ages and once played a quite similar game. Or maybe it's just that I have tremendous admiration for you dear Julia, living your life in Prague and sharing small parts of it with us via the blog.

In any case, happy birthday to that cute little edible darling of a boy.

I like their game :)

I love 2, despite its occasional temper tantrums (head on the floor in despair that we don't understand the importance of immediately possessing that desired, beloved thing, whatever it may be!). He is very edible and human at the same time - it is the blessing of his age.

Thank you guys for the nice birthday thoughts!

Ahh, The Game. My kids used to call it Hide and Shriek.

Adorable children you have! Two is such a fun age. Happy Birthday, James!

C - Hide and Shriek is a brilliant name! I hope you don't mind if we henceforth adopt it ;-). I also hope you're feeling better and enjoying yourself in Vancouver.

The Game: charmingly summarised, hideous to endure (as an adult that is).

It can be noisy for sure, but at least with the noise you know where they are. When quiet falls, I go looking for them as trouble is almost always nearby!

Hide and Shriek--that comment is too funny. My sons play this when we watch the neighbor girl who is also just 2. She LOVES to play it with three older "guys."
And we're Thomas the Train fans here, too. Yay!

Hilarious! I remember my kids playing that same damn game! :D

As a big sister, I would notice that determination in the eyes of my little brother. In those moments, all things were possible.

Thomas the train and his cohorts are wonderful; its really amazing how much they entertain both kids and me too!

About The Game - I really never knew it had rules until Caroline told them to me. Ever since it has civilized the whole experience, at least a little bit.

He's a very determined fellow. Even with five years between them he often will win through will alone.

What a cute game. It is at that age when kids normally become very hyperactive. He is such a good boy trying to make his own breakfast. Happy birthday little one!

What a star he is! I remember when he was borned.

I'm thinking of asking if anyone round here wants to play the game...

So that's what it is called..."The Game." My kids have played that for a long time now. I don't mind it much, though it drives Jeff nuts. We try to stop "The Game" when Daddy comes home.
