Once a year we head to the northern border of the Czech Republic, to a little ski town called Rokytnice nad Jizerou, deep in the Krkonoše mountains. A perfect mountain weekend calls for a camp fire, a hike, some nature study and at least one stop at a hospoda for Czech food. It almost always rains too, so there is usually plenty of time for just hanging around and talking to our friends or reading books.
Last weekend we drove through torrential rains to Roktynice. We ate lunch and watched the sun appear and then, once again, the perfect mountain weekend unwound until Sunday evening fell and it was time to drive down into the city for the week ahead.

Is it just me or does C look older??
She does, but it could also be the camera lens - it makes her look a little more elongated than in real life. They are growing up fast though!
If it rains in a ski report it means the temperature is warmish. Add rain to melting snow and you get "porridge" - an excellent medium for incurring a broken ankle. And a lot of sweaty underclothing.
But come to think of it is August. I hope you were able to admire the edelweiss.
Rokytnice is a ski town but I've never been there in the winter - I like the mountains in the summer myself. It is famous for its cross country skiing though, in case anyone is interested!
The mountains in summer is one of my favorite places to visit--they're overrated as a winter destination!
Love those foxgloves! Sounds like a delightful summer getaway spot...
GG - I'm that way too, I like the mountains in summer and the beach in winter.
Lynn - Thanks for the plant id, I didn't know they were foxgloves! We found bunches by the path and the children loved to watch the bees disappear into them.
that little ski town called Rokytnice nad Jizerou looks and sounds like a great place ot visit
